Field Tools
Camera
Use the camera tools to estimate hyperfocal distance for broad depth of field and convert equivalent focal lengths across different sensor formats.
Hyperfocal distance
5.14 m
With a 35 mm lens at f/8 on full frame, focus at 5.14 m to keep depth of field extending from roughly half that distance to infinity.
H = f² / (N × c) + f
`f` is focal length in mm, `N` is the f-number, and `c` is the circle of confusion in mm.
Equivalent focal length
52.5 mm
A 35 mm lens on APS-C / Super 35 gives the same angle of view as a 52.5 mm lens on full frame.
Equivalent focal length = focal length × (target crop factor / source crop factor)
Crop factor compares a sensor's angle of view to full frame. This conversion only changes framing equivalence, not the physical focal length of the lens.
